Melinda and I met in 2008 and were friends for several years before dating. Poor girl as known me long enough to know that I look for songs to dedicate to her on a regular basis. The constant search to find songs to dedicate to her vs the songs I actually dedicate to her are two different things. Its a long search and they aren’t all ‘head over heals’ songs. Sometimes they’re fun songs that remind us of dancing in a club in our early 20’s, sometimes it’s a song that makes us laugh and sometimes its just a weird song that has stuck me/us over the years for one reason or another.
- Heaven’s Knife – Josh Garrels
Man this song can make any man cry over the love for his wife. Josh is one of our staple favorites overall and this song always hits me hard when I listen and think of Mel. - The Wild One, Forever (Live) – Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
When Mel and I first met she was the wild one in my eyes. The untamed mustang so to speak LOL. I remember the first night we kissed I went home and listened to this song the next day and it I knew it was immediately a song I wanted to dedicate to her. - Problem Girl – Rob Thomas
This song makes me laugh because I decided this song to her before we were dating. She was having boyfriend troubles and I got in her car one day and I was trying to hint at her that I liked her. The lyric “you’re no problem at all” was my way of trying to tell her I’d treat her better and she’s no problem in my eyes. - Martio Kart Love Song – Sam Hart
Any 90’s kid LOVES mario kart. If you don’t love it, you aren’t a true 90’s kid! When we searching for wedding songs I threw this out there as a half-joke and we chose to use it during the cake cutting ceremony. I am quite sure from the outside this is a laughable song choice and it is! But it is so weird how this song contains laughter and tear jerking magic all at the same time. - We Found Love – Rihanna
Now if there is ever a club song that reminds me of 2009 when Mel and I would go downtown on a weekly basis, this is it. For better or worse, we bonded in our party stage of life. This song always takes me back to those late night clubs on 6th street when we would drink red bull vodka and dance our problems away.
- Desire – Ryan Adams
An unconventional love song to say the least but our wedding song none the less. Ryan Adams ruled my listening life in those days and when MEL PICKED this to be our wedding song I knew she was the one.
